Valve Spring Shim Size 6.4 cam swap

I am collecting all my parts to do the 6.4 cam swap in my 14 Challenger R/T. I have everything except the valve shims. I was told I need .020 and .030 shims but I do not know what the outside diameter. I have seen 1.250 and 1.500. I tried to use the search button.

When I shimmed my Eagle heads using 6.1 intake springs. I used Howards cams .030 shim. I will see if I can find box.

What springs are you installing on your Eagle heads, I used the PSI 1511 springs on mine. To get the installed height with in spec 1.800(factory is 1.99), I used a Manley 42324-16 spring cup locator which measures 1.300 O.D. / .812 I.D. / .205 thick plus you are suppose to use a 0.020 shim under the intake and a 0.030 under the exhaust that I think were (not positive) 1.50 O.D. /.850 I.D. I know the factory shim for the Eagle head is 1.53 O.D. / .870 I.D. and mine all measured between 0.038 and 0.040 thick,( most likely are marked as 0.040 from factory) which you do not reuse. The stock valve spring bottom O.D. is suppose to be 1.350, mine measured 1.305 ruffly and the PSI are 1.290 bottom O.D.
With the PSI springs set up with the .205 spring cups and .020 and .030 shims your installed height should come in at around 1.805 intake and 1.795 exhaust give or take a few thousands for machining tolerances. The spring rates are 413# per inch on the 5.7 Eagle spring, 397 on 6.1 spring, 389 on the 6.4 spring, and 384 on the PSI 1511's

I used 6.1 intake springs on Eagle heads. I shimmed them to correct height for a 6.1. Eagle valve train is slightly longer. Turned out fine.

Are there some recommended springs for this swap that do not need shims? Would 6.4 springs work with the 6.4 cam, or are the Apache heads different enough from Eagle that shims are needed?
Considering this swap for my sons 13 Charger R/T.

I know the Eagle and Apache have taller valve train. I wonder if you could just use the stock Eagle springs with the 6.4 cam.

No you can not use the 5.7 Eagle springs with the 6.4 cam higher lift, it will put the springs in coil bind. The Apache heads have there spring installed height set at 2.051. So putting the Apache springs on the Eagle heads you will be compressing them about .061 more and putting them that much closer to coil bind. 07RT Mopar Performance is selling a set of springs under the part number P5160074 that fit the Eagle heads with the stock spring seat shims and retainers and locks that are good for .625 cam lift. They are the springs that come in the Scat Pack 2 kit along with the Comp Cams 201-426-17 (270/283 222/230 .615/.609 lsa 115) cam.

Yes -the Eagle heads have a installed height of 1.81. Is the 6.4 cam that much higher lift than a 5.7 ?

The 5.7 Eagle head has a 1.99 installed height, the 03 to 08 5.7 and 05 to 10 6.1 heads have 1.81 installed height. The 6.4 cam has over .070 more lift then the 5.7 cams. I give this figure because there is at least 7 to 8 different cams for the 5.7 between cars, trucks, 5.7 Eagle, 08 and back 5.7, MDS and non MDS, VVT and non VVT all with different lift specs.

My dealer connect is wrong. The early 5.7 non-VVT - installed height is 1.81, The Eagle as you stated is 1.99. I should have remembered this when I did my Eagle head swap.

OP, did you get the cam in? If so, how does it run? Who did the tune?
