    rust question

    Hey gang,

I'm considering adding a new Challenger R/T alongside my SRT8 Maggie. This will be a summer car, but used in all summer weather (rainy days, etcetera). The rest of my summer cars don't even get wet, heh heh.

Anyways, here in the Chicago area I am seeing more and more of the earlier Challengers showing rust through ahead of the rear wheels......like ventilated quarter panel rust through, not just surface.
I remember some time ago that Dodge was repairing these under the rust warranty but am wondering if they changed the construction method to reduce the rustout tendency. Memory says it was often a result of a spray foam sound deadener that had been applied during assembly.

So, my question is twofold: 1. Did Dodge change the construction method and or, 2. Has it been determined this is a salt belt issue only or is it happening to all Challengers regardless of where operated (like water entrance and retention).

Thanks in advance for any input.

    Rob

I, like you don't drive my 2006 Charger R/T in winter or rainy days. I never heard of rust warranty problems with early LX. Maybe someone can enlighten us.

If there was\IS a rust warranty...sure wish I knew that before I cut and welded new rear wells in mine

Mopar has a five year unlimited mileage rust through warranty on finish painted body sheet metal......it is in your warranty manual. I mentioned it because I had heard rumor that they (Dodge) were doing repairs on a case by case basis beyond the original coverage.
    Ultimagic5?
Was your car operated in a salty environment like I deal with in Chicago or do you think your corrosion was caused by poor water drainage in the quarters?

I'm not entirely sure of the vehicle location history, I can't recall the Carfax details

I bought it in Missouri 2 years ago and it still resides here. We do love to salt the s*** out of our roads, so take from that what you will.
