    eagle heads knowledge

Just looking for some info on eagle heads. They seem to be mentioned a lot. Just curious as to what kind of advantage they offer and any general info on the subject. Just wanna learn.

They have a higher compression and flow than pre eagle heads. Not sure compared to 6.1 heads.

They are setup similar to 6.1 heads with regards to chamber and port size, IIRC the valves are slightly smaller. The valves are taller than on a first gen 5.7 head, so you would need the eagle valve covers to go on them (not sure if they use the same coils). With the bigger port size, upgrading to an eagle intake or 6.1 intake will work better.

For your car, and the engine you are putting in it:

I'm assuming its a pre eagle 5.7 you are dropping in, otherwise you wouldn't be asking.

Its not as simple as swapping the heads:

You will need the eagle manifold and valve covers, valve covers cause the rockers are higher and you need like 1/2 " higher valve covers.

You will need the SPACERS ( not to be confused with the adapters) as your 5.7 block has a boss for the coolant temp sensor that protrudes up in the front of the engine that the eagle blocks does not have. the spacers simply raise up the intake to provide clearance.

So you will also need longer intake manifold bolts to allow for the spacers. and some fuel line for the crossover if you use your 5.7 rails.

You will need a .074 cometic head gasket and custom push rods, other wise your compression will be up around 13:1, but only for about 2 RPMs as the valves will hit the pistons and your done.

I'd recommend if you seriously thinking bout doing this add a cam, replace the timing gears set with 6.1 set and get some stronger valve springs.

yes it will make your car faster!....trust me

And with that being said you will be highly disappointed with just a head swap. TO really see full gains I would recommend having the heads ported and a nice cam to match.. As for the link you seek . The valve covers you seek are from dodge from any VVT engine, 5.7 or a 392..

I have not been able to find any information about the intake volume on the 09+ Eagles. I see that pre-eagle intake volume is 161cc and the larger 6.1L are 188cc. Have anyone verified what is the intake runner volume for the 09+ 5.7 hemis?

Here's a link to Hotrod Mag. I found a wile back. they show flow numbers, might be of some good use.

Yeah I've read that article and i see the intake volumes for the pre-09 5.7s and the 6.1L but nothing on 09+eagles or the Apache. Also looking at those flow numbers for the 09+ Eagles, i know that flow benches are like chassis dynos...varies from operators via machines, but those numbers look pretty generous around the .400 to .600 inch ranges.

When doing the eagle swap to an 06 to 08 5.7.... machining the heads sounds like the best option. Imo
Who has specs on how much they need to be opened up to lower the compression on the engine accepting the swap?

I had Stu at Inertia open up my Eagle heads to about 72cc. With .070 Cometics head gasket - CR is around 10.0-1.
