Building my own 8 ribs conversion

After looking différant option , to make my Vortech V7 more consistent and avoiding changing belt every 15 runs, I decided it was time for a 8 ribs conversion on the Magnum and push boost from 17 to 20 pounds.

Looking the few kit that was available on the market, I soon realize it was out of my budget!

I decided to make room in front of the motor and look if I can design my own one. The most complicated pulley was the a/c one, after removing it from the compressor I finally found a good way to machine it in a way I can just slip over an aluminum one secured by a few set screw.

The rest of the pulley was easier and I almost complete them all, just a few idler and I need to come with an idea for the stock tensioner to accommodate the larger belt.

Here some pictures of the pulley, they are not complete but you can get an Idea .

Once completed, I will hard anodize them to protect them and give more hardness to the surface.

If there is interest in a kit like this, I may make 2 or 3 more and offer them at low price.

I do this in my spare time at my home in the winter trying to bring the daily driver Magnum in the 9 seconds !

Failed last year with a 10.07 on a burnt out transmission and a slipping blower belt so 2020 will be in the 9 for sure !

    Thanks !
I had the opportunity to test it last week and it performed very well in the condition I had problems before with the 6 rib.

Before, it was very hard on the belt just doing burn out because blower was spinning at max rpm and stretch the belt to a point of failure when engine rpm drops faster than the blower itself.

Waiting to get opportunities to hit the track and see how much boost I picked up!

I tried on the street but boost is coming so fast it smokes the tire even in 4th gear on the high way!

I saw short peak at 6000 rpm over 20 psi on the gage, never saw higher than 18 psi with a new belt before so for sure will get more hp now

Very cool setup, looking forward to seeing your results. I currently have the V3 myself but in the process of building my motor as we speak and that will be the next area I will need to look at. Best I can get out of this V3 is 9 LBS with a 28 tooth upper pulley and want to go 12-14 lbs.
    Killing Time......

    Just having fun!

I was able to get 12 psi with the V3 on the stock 6.1l motor with a smaller serpentine belt but same setup with the 405Ci was pushing only 8-9 psi.

The Ysi is a direct swap but you will find the cog belt and the 6 rib cannot support the boost this blower can push, I learned the hard way !

For those following this tread, 8 rib conversion worked very good, reliable and no more belt slipping at the track.
did record pass at 9.98 139mph last Sunday in a full weight car.

have about 1000 miles on it and 20 1/4 mile run, almost no belt dust.
boost is very constant and peak now 17 psi at 4500rpm then waste hate valve keep it there until 6500 rpm.
without Waste gate, it peaked at 20 psi but ran out of fuel so will keep it max 17 psi on pump gas

very happy with the result !

    Congrats man! That's moving!

I actually got 16 PSI out of my V-3, but the Jeep uses a jackshaft setup. Not sure about the LX'es. I had the complete set of pulleys and I was spinning the hell out of it. Overspun my V-2 Ti as well. The YSi has a different bolt pattern I believe than the V-3. I know my tech said it would require a different bracket. But the V-2 Ti fits the V-3 mounting. It's actually only 200 CFM less than the YSi. But the V-21 XB110 that's currently on there is limited by the gear drive. But I got Chris Jr to fab the biggest gear set that would fit, so it's right at the Vortech max RPM.

    wink

lx got jack shaft too, surprized about bolt pattern since I use the bracket of my V3 and the YSI was bolt on to it.
had enlarge the cog belt width and whit the new 8 ribs now got reliably 16-17 psi.

remember that my motor is a 405ci and have 10.5 to 1 compression so getting 16 psi out the V3 was not possible for me.

Yeah I'm still 6.1. The more displacement, the faster you gotta spin it. I should mention, I had the BES engine when I ran 16 psi. On the stock bottom end I only pushed it to 9-10 psi, but was living on the edge. I tried to push the V-2 Ti to 20 psi, but at ~18 and 6k rpm, the 6 rib would instantly shred. I thought about a 50mm cog setup, but ended up going with the gear drive instead. I never could shred the cog belts on the jackshaft though.

Hmmm... Maybe I misunderstood Michael on the bracket.

    wink
